Review: Sweet Monster (Popcorn Ice Cream)

After a very hearty dinner at Plaza Singapura such that I did not have mushroom (much room) left, I decided to finally try out this Popcorn Ice Cream that has been buzzing lately.

Located at a a takeaway kiosk on Basement 2, you can easily identify Sweet Monster from the childlike cartoon monster drawings that adorn the kiosk. Be it their takeaway cups to their popcorn boxes or cup holders, everything is decorated with colourful and weird looking monsters!

Sweet Monster offers 5 flavours of popcorn (PopMON) namely Caramel, Milk, Choco, Strawberry and Mix (Caramel & Cheese). You can buy the popcorn by itself at $5.50 per box although it is not very crispy and slightly crunchy. After sampling all the flavours, my friend – Yee Hwee – and I decided to get a Popcorn Ice Cream with Choco PopMON.

When the Popcorn Ice Cream was served, the first thing that came to my mind was, “Woosh! How is it that the popcorn are all held in place and not falling out?”

After taking the first scoop and eventually wolfing down the last popcorn like a monster, I felt that it is generally more on the milky side and can be a little bit nauseating if you are used to sourish soft serve such as Llao Llao. I felt that the ice cream was a monster on its own as it melted faster than usual.

Other products from Sweet Monster:
Ice cream ($4.80 – $6), Milkshake, Cakes ($7-8) and Cake Ice Cream ($8 – $8.30)

Sweet Monster is a nice korean outlet to pacify your child only if you are on the go as there is no seating area. Yee Hwee (@natalieongyh) who took all the photos above and has a sweet tooth says, “I like it a lot and would definitely patronise it again!”
